Our Teacher's in a Wheelchair ~ Mary Ellen Powers (1986, Albert Whitman & Company)

Summary: This book is about a pre-school teacher, Brian Hanson, who is confined to a wheelchair. It shows pictures of what is it like to be in a wheelchair and follows him throughout his daily activities.
My Review: I think this book is a great way to introduce people with disabilities. I believe that children ought to be aware of others and be respectful to them. I think this book does a great job of illustrating that to its readers.

  1. Great idea of making a list of what they can do to try and help people in wheelchairs. Have you ever thought of letting students try using a wheelchair to let them actually see what a person in a wheelchair has to do everyday?

  2. That is a great idea! I would definitely try to do that of I have the opportunity to use this book. After I had posted this one of the kids at school sprained their leg and used a wheelchair to get between each floor. The kids in her class were more than willing to help her by pushing her to their specials. It was nice to see how helpful they were.
