A.B.C. Kids ~ Simon Basher (2011, Kingfisher)

Summary:
This book is an alphabet book and on each page it has a sentence about a child doing something to something else that all start with the same letter. For example, Brianna bounces beautiful bugs. It has wonderful alliteration on each page. It also has the entire alphabet on each page and shows where that specific letter is by underlining it.

My Review: I enjoy reading this book to my son and my students. Its fun for them to recognize that each word starts with the same letter and most of the time, the same sound. It also a fun way to learn about the alphabet.

About the Author: Basher is a widely known artist, illustrator and author. He has written books that make learning topics fun and accessible to grade school students. He has written books about physics, punctuation and math.

Genre: Realistic Fiction, Alphabet
Theme / Skill: Letter Identification, Phonemic Awareness
Age Level: 0-7

Pre-reading Activity: Have student/ child sing the alphabet. Look through the book and identify some of the pictures.

Post-reading Activity: Try to illustrate and write a sentence for the students/ child listening to the book. Some names (like my son's) my be very difficult to do this for. He has a silent k in the front of his name so you could do K words or N beginning sound words.
